A design concept for a two-bedroom laneway house in Dunbar, Vancouver, addressing the growing demand for adaptable, compact urban housing. Laneway homes can provide rental income, accommodate extended family, and contribute to neighbourhood density in a thoughtful way.
Many existing laneway houses are poorly planned, cramped, or oddly shaped. This design reimagines the typology with flexibility and future sustainability in mind.
The Dunbar laneway house features a main floor with an open-plan living, kitchen, and bedroom layout that connects seamlessly to a private garden. The second floor offers a flexible, airy space that can serve as a home office, artist studio, yoga room, additional bedroom, or rumpus space, adapting to the changing needs of the family.
This approach can be applied to various lot sizes across Vancouver, offering a versatile, liveable solution that benefits both families and the wider community.
